Day 1 (Sat. Nov 3) - Arrive
Marrakesh (RAK) @ 2:00 PM (D) (AT)
You will be picked up from the airport and taken directly to your riad in
Marrakesh. After getting relaxed in the hotel, you would meet your guide and
discuss with him the sites you are interested in visiting. If you like, you can
explore the Saadian tombs, Bahia Palace, Ali Ben Youssef Koranic School, and
walk through the various souks. Don't forget, the Jma el Fna square which
comes alive at dusk and into the night with storytellers, musicians, acrobats,
snake charmers and more. This is a must-see!
Day 2* (Sun. Nov 4) - High Atlas Mountains (L, D) (T=2 hrs)
Today, you will have private transport to the High Atlas Mountains where you'll
meet our High Atlas Mountains guide and walk with him to the Berber village of
Armed and enjoy lunch at a local family's home. You'll be able to grab some
photos of the region on a guided walk or drive.
Day 3* (Mon. Nov 5) - High Atlas Mountains (L, D) *Optional Professional
Photography Workshop
Today in the high Atlas, you can choose to do travel along the Nfiss Valley to
the Tin Mil Mosque if you'd like. It is a stunning area worthy of photographs.
If you choose to have the professional photography workshop as an itinerary
extra, it would be today that you'd do some morning discussions followed by an
outing to the Kik Plataue, Tin Mil Mosque, and other regions in the High Atlas
to capture the best photos possible.
Day 4* (Tue. Nov 6) - Ait Ben Haddou / Ouarzazate / Skoura (D) (T= 6 hrs)
After passing over the Tiz n Tichka Pass today, you will arrive in Skoura.
Along the way you will have the opportunity to visit the UNESCO world heritage
site at Ait Ben Haddou. It has been used as a backdrop for many famous films,
including The Mummy and Gladiator. You might also enjoy exploring Ouarzazate.
This relatively new city is home to Atlas Studios, where tourists can enter and
take a guided tour of various movie sets. In Ouarzazate, you can also visit the
Taorirt Kasbah once owned by the Glaoui family, who ruled Morocco. In Skoura,
you will be staying in the Skoura palm grove also known as the valley of
kasbahs.
Day 5* (Wed. Nov 7) - Merzouga (Sahara Desert) (D) (T=5 hrs)
In the morning, you'll head from Skoura to Merzouga, which is on the edge of
the Sahara Desert. En route, if you'd like to take a drive up into the Dades
Valley or Todra Gorge, you may do so. However, this will add two hours to your
transport time for the day. Before venturing on a short camel ride into the
desert, you can pack an overnight back and leave any luggage in storage at the
hotel. Following, you'll choose your camel and head into the dunes for a
memorable night under the stars. You'll be sleeping in a Bedouin-style tent.
Our private tent area has actual beds with blankets and sheets, as well as
carpets aligning the ground, and a western-style bathroom facility.
Day 6* (Thu. Nov 8) - Merzouga (Free day) (L, D)
You can take 1 or 2-hour off-road tour in Merzouga where you would be able to
visit a desert lake (not during the dry season), ruins of an ex-French military
outpost, an antimony mine, have tea with a semi-nomadic Berber tribe, go to
Khamlia, a village of freed slaves known for the Gnawi brotherhoods who play
spiritual music. You would also be able to visit Rissani, the hometown of the
current Alaouite Dynasty where Moulay Ali Cherif's mausoleum is located. You
can visit the mausoleum if you'd like. Rissani was once known as Sijilmassa, an
important caravan trading center, and you can take a quick drive through the
ruins of Sijilmassa if you'd like. Rissani is also known for it's silver. You
can have medfouna (the typical dish of the town) for lunch in Rissani.
Day 7* (Fri. Nov 9) - Tinjedad / Dades Valley (D) (T=4 hrs)
This morning, you'll be able to rise with the sunset to grab some photos before
hopping back onto the camels for the short ride back to the hotel. Once there,
you can enjoy a shower and breakfast before heading on the road again. You'll
have plenty of opportunities to stop along the way for photos. You'll then head
through Rissani, home to several fossil shops, before continuing on the road to
Tinjedad for lunch. En route to Dades, you can drive up into the Todra Gorge.
This will add about two hours to the above transport time for the day.
Following, you'll head through Tinjedad and to Boumalen. Here, you can enjoy a
drive up into the scenic Dades Valley to witness Morocco's most amazing natural
rock formations. You'll spend the night in dades Valley.
Day 8* (Sat. Nov 10) - Marrakesh (T=6 hrs)
Today, you will head back over the Tizi N Tichka pass and the High Atlas
Mountains to Marrakesh. Even though you are leaving early tomorrow morning,
we'll go ahead and reserve a room for you so you can relax this afternoon,
shower, and prepare for our late departure.
Day 9 (Sun. Nov 11) - Depart Marrakesh @ 2:00 AM (AT= 20 min)
You'll be departing Marrakesh early this morning. We hope you had a wonderful
journey!
